The Metal Fabrication Process
Metal fabricators complete a series of processes like bending, rolling, pressing, welding and finishing to shape and polish different types of metal, forming playground components and structures. There are typically three main stages of the metal fabrication process.
During planning and design, our team uses computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) or computer-aided design (CAD) software to create 2D and 3D product prototypes based on the manufacturer’s request.
This prototype helps us identify and address any flaws, ensuring a safe and functional product. We’ll also experiment with multiple materials to determine the best option for different playground components.
Next, we cut and shape each component based on the specifications determined during the design phase. We use various tools and techniques depending on the product’s or structure’s requirements, such as 2D or 3D laser cutting, tube bending, welding, press brakes or roll-forming equipment. We work carefully with the product’s design to ensure material, shape, size and other details are precise for the product’s desired purpose.
3. Assembly and Finishing
The final stage is assembling and finishing the metal product, rendering it ready for its intended use. Deburring involves removing excess material and smoothing rough edges.
Powder coating fuses a dry, thick powder to the metal’s surface, increasing its strength and preventing corrosion from exposure to chemicals and moisture. Powder coating comes in a wide variety of colors, making the playground structure more aesthetically appealing.
